The writers of Dollhouse use Topher’s overconfidence in the imprinting method to
argue that the advancement in technology and research are being overlooked with
the possibilities of huge consequences and dangers. In the first scene we see that Topher has too
much confidence in believing he could improve the imprinting process; which he
did. Then in the second scene, we see
how Topher lost control of the technology and didn’t realize actually how
powerful this technology was and what he was dealing with. Luckily, Topher was also able to find the
solution to the problem before everyone in the world had been affected by the
technology and let Rossum corporations control everything. In all, we see that Topher is the center of how the imprinting method becomes advanced, but at the same time produces a machine that can affect the whole world eventually.
Possible Themes:
1)Ethical or Unethical Issue
2)Overconfidence
??
1) This subject can be defined as an ethical or unethical issue. In this case I believe it is an ethical issue as the scientists have found ways to not use human embryos.
2) Overconfidence was a big factor in how Topher lost control of the imprinting method. In real life, if an authority figure was full with overconfidence, there would be a possibility of that confidence blind him/her from the major consequences or flaws in the system.

You have some good ideas, you could expand on any of them.I especially think the overconfidence one is interesting.
