1.) The writers of Firefly use these many instances of Mal
and his crew doing the right thing to argue that, just because Mal and his crew
are breaking the law on this mission, people stereotyping them to do immoral things is wrong because not all people who break the law can be classified into
one big group. We constantly see this in
today’s world, as groups are often stereotyped to all fit into one
category. These stereotypes that portray
a group, or groups, as being immoral based on their characteristics are evident
in our society all the time, and they are often extremely unfair to those being
stereotyped against. We often see stereotypes with different ethnic and religious groups.
2.)
Labeling without knowing - You and your friends probably do this all the time. You place a label on a person solely based off of how they look, or things that you have heard about them. When in reality you know nothing about them.
Placing a person into a category based on other people's experiences - racism, for example. Every person that is racist against a certain group obviously hasn't experienced something so awful that would cause them to hate a group so much. They base their racism off of other people's bad experiences, which often times is also just blind racism (meaning they have no real reason to have their racist views).
