Section 1:
Chapter II
1. Form the possessive singular of nouns with 's
-add an 's to nouns hat show ownership of something that follows it.
2. In a series of 3 or more, use commas after each term except after the last term.
- Use commas to separate lists
3. Enclose parenthetic expressions between commas
- add a comma before and after a slight and considerable interruption
4. Place a comma before and or but introducing an independent clause
- Put commas before and or but when it splits two independent clauses
5. Do not join independent clauses by a comma
- If two or more clauses, not joined by a conjunction,a re to form a single compound sentence, use a semicolon - If a conjunction is inserted, use a comma
6. Do not break sentences in two
- Do not use periods for commas
7. A participial phrase at the beginning of a sentence must refer to the grammatical subject
-A phrase at the beginning of the sentence must be able to be switched with the end of the sentence
8. Divide words at line-ends, in accordance with their formation and pronunciation
- If there isn't enough room at the end of a line for one or more syllables, connect the words with a hyphen
Chapter IV
1.Heading- Leave a blank line after the title or heading of a manuscrpit
2.Numerals- Do not spell out dates or serial numbers. Write them in figures of Roman notation
3.Parentheses- a sentence containing parentheses are punctuated outside of the parentheses.
4.Quotations- 1)Formal quotations are introduced by a colon 2)Quotations grammatically in apposition or the direct object of verbs are preceded by a comma 3)Quotations of an entire line are started with a fresh line and centered with NO quotation marks 4)Quotations introduced by that are regarded as indirect discourse and NOT enclosed in quotation marks
5.References- In scholarly work requiring exact references, abbreviate titles that occur frequently
6.Titles- For the titles of literary works, use italics with capitalized initials.
