Section 1. List and explain the rules
Chapter II.
1. Form possessive singular nouns with "'s"
-i.e. Burt's bees
2. In a series of three or more terms with a single conjunction, use a comma after each term except the last.
-i.e. I brought Mountain Dew, Pepsi and Coke
3. Enclose parenthetic expressions between commas.
-Used when adding info that isn't absolutely necessary and wouldn't stand alone.
-i.e. I went to the mall with Mary, my sister, the other day.
4.Place a comma before 'and' or 'but' introducing and independent clause.
-i.e. Today's economy is rapidly changing, but so are many aspects of our nation.
5. Do not join independent clauses by a comma
-Two independent clauses should be joined by a semi-colon
6. Do not break sentences in two
-Do not use a period in place of a comma
7. A participial phrase at the beginning of a sentence must refer to the grammatical subject
-Make sure the phrase starting the sentence refers to the subject.
8. Divide words at line-ends, in accordance with their formation and pronunciation.
-Divide according to formation, the vowel, and on the double letter.
Chapter IV.
9. Headings - Leave a blank line after a title
10. Numerals - Write dates or other serial numbers in figures or Roman numerals as appropriate
11. Parenthesis - Contain things that cannot stand alone in the sentence
12. Quotations - quotes can be preceded by a colon, comma, or nothing depending on the sentence. Block quotes start on the next line and are single spaced.
13. References - Abbreviate titles that occur frequently, giving the full forms in alphabetical list at the end
14. Titles - italicize all titles.
Section 2. Reviewed sentences in my paper:
Misused commas.
Used no semi-colons
Some sentences did not start with a phrase referring to the subject of the sentence
Broke some sentences in two when there should have just been a comma
Made the corrections in my actual paper
