1a. This scene from “Epitaph One” is a flashback that involved Adelle DeWitt
and Topher Brink. Adelle enters a room where Topher is sitting in a hole
surrounded by piles of books. Topher is very excited to see Adelle. He grabs
her hand and instantly starts talking about his technology, but he doesn’t seem
to be in a stable state of mind. He seems to be going crazy in some way. She
asks if he has had anything to eat, but he hasn’t. He on continues saying, “One
robo call to a City; that’s all it takes. An entire army in a single instant in
the hands of any government and boom.” He talks about how the technology could
create a war with two sides: one side programmed to kill those who didn’t
answer the call and the other side those who didn’t answer the call. Topher
makes Adelle promise she won’t answer the phone and she agrees. Adelle suggests
that she read something to him, but he continues thinking about the war. He
ponders the question of whether it is better to answer the call or not, and he
realizes how brilliant the idea was. Then he asks, “Why didn’t I think of
that?” Suddenly Topher realizes he thought of this technology to program an entire
army in an instant causing an apocalyptic world. Topher can’t handle what he
has done and starts having a breakdown repeating “Oh my god.” Topher climes
back in his hole, still breaking down, and begins to cry as Adelle comforts him
ending the scene.

2a. During the final scene in "Epitaph One"
Mag, Zone, and the mind-imprinted Caroline climb up the elevator shaft and
arrive in Adelle’s old office. When they reach the top they look out over the
ruined city with crumbling buildings and destruction everywhere. As the
imprinted Caroline looks out she says, “It was playing with matches and they
burned the house down.” She then walks over to a wall where a large collection
of pictures of a lot of the Actives followed throughout the series are hanging
on the wall. Imprinted Caroline picks out a picture of herself and says she
hopes she'll find herself alive; then she puts the photo back. The scene ends
with the group climbing out the window, starting their journey to Safe Haven.
