Blog 25: EoS II & IV

Section 1. List & Explain the rules:

Chapter II:
1. Form possessive singular of nouns with 's
     - add 's to possessive singular words like Burns's poems.
     - example: I brought fruits, veggies, and sandwiches to the picnic.
3. Enclose parenthetic expressions between commas.
     - Used when adding info that isn't absolutely necessary and would not really stand alone.
(i.e. The large dog, which was pure bred Labrador, destroyed the couch cushion.)
     - The world is a very different place today, but the elderly can give us glimpses of the past.
     - Two or more independent clauses should be joined by a semicolon
     - Don't use periods where commas should be used.
     - Being very old, she was not able to take care of the dog. Should be: The lady, who was very old, was not able to take of the dog.
     - divide according to formation, on the vowel, and on the double letter. Respectively, pronun-ciation, presi-dential, and ten-nessee.

Chapter IV:
1. Heading- Leave a blank line after the heading.
2. Numerals- Do not write out dates, Roman numerals or figures as appropriate.
3. Parentheses- Contain things that cannot stand alone in the sentence.
4. References- abbreviate titles and use Roman numerals. Exclude act, scene, line, book
5. Titles- Italicize all titles

Section 2. Reviewed sentences in my paper:

1. Numerous misuses of commas.
2. Replace some commas with semicolons

The revisions were made in my actual paper.
