Blog 26: EoS III

Step One, Two and Three (easier to do side-by-side)
1a. Draw reader in and introduce them to the idea of what a real life stereotype is.
1b. Use the situation of walking down a dark street...etc. to introduce reader to how a stereotype might apply in the real world.
1c.  Matches up pretty well except I need to delay on using the word "stereotype" in 1b.

2a. Introduce reader to show and episode, and introduce them to the idea that stereotypes exist in Firefly.
2b. Introduce the show with background information, as well as the episode.  Present the issue in the show that people have stereotypes on criminals
2c. Matches up, again though I need to not use the word "stereotype" in 2b.

3a. Scene

4a. Prove how Niska's men stereotype Mal and show how it negatively effected the situation.
4b. Use Niska's men assuming that Mal would steal again because he already had to show that by him assuming the worst it caused conflict and resulted in him being killed.  Even though Mal was doing the right thing.
4c. In 4b I say that Niska's men stereotyped Mal, which they didn't.  I need to talk about how they judged him based on what they would do.

5a. Scene

6a. Prove that the because the sheriff judged Mal for doing the wrong thing, he didn't think he would make up for it. (broken stereotype)
6b. Show how the sheriff was surprised Mal was doing the right thing because he had completely misjudged him.
6c.Matches up pretty well

7a. In our world stereotypes exist and are unfair to those being judged.  Examples are criminals and muslims
7b. Link the issues in the show to those in the real world and introduce the examples of criminals and muslims.
7c. Good match.

8a. Go into detail about what a stereotype is and what stereotypes do to our thought process.
8b. Use Saul McLeod's definition of stereotype and what he says are the results of the person who is doing the stereotype are.
8c. Matches up well for just a general introduction to stereotypes and how they effect us.

9a. Give a real life example with information to support it form a scholarly source in order to prove that they exist.
9b. Give the example of criminals, and use information from Kimberly Maclin's study to show what she found to be characteristics that we associate with criminals.
9c. Good

10a. Use the information to prove/show how stereotypes are bad.
10b. Use her information to prove that it is unfair that we associate people with certain characteristics with criminals.
10c. Good

11a. Introduce another form of stereotype with another scholarly source and use information from a study.
11b. Introduce the stereotypes we have on Muslims after 9/11 with information from Lorraine Sherridan's article.
11c. Good

12a. Use this information to prove how THAT stereotype effects those people.
12b. Use the raised discrimination reports from the article to show that just because of 9/11 people now treat Muslims worse because they associate them with being terrorists.
12c. Good

13a. Transition into conclusion by bringing things back to the show and bring about the idea of a solution.
13b. Example of how even if one person sees a stereotype broken, other people won't know.  Introduce a possible solution in Firefly
13c. This paragraph needs a lot of work.  Really just the whole paragraph needs to be done except for the sentence that goes back to the show.

14a. Scene

15a.  Use what happened in the scene to show a possible solution.
15b. Prove that the assumptions that Simon had about the simple way of life of the planet were broken once he actually experienced that lifestyle.
15c.  Not very good.  Not a stereotype but a lack of experience which leads him to act the way he does.

16a. Relate what happened in the show and how we can apply that in the real world for solutions.
16b. Said that we can do this in the real world by not judging something that we have no experience with.
16c. Decent.  Will need a little work once the analysis paragraph gets fixed

17a. conclude the paper by reiterating the solutions, and saying what they could do.
17b.  Restated the solutions and how that could make our world an easier place to live in.
17c. Decent.  Just needs to be tidied up a little
