In the scene where Mellie is "switched on" by the head of Dollhouse and easily kills the intruder then is switched back to the Mellie that is scared and innocent. What exactly happened?
Mellie may be a product of the Dollhouse. This could be the viewers first insight into what Dollhouse's master plan might be. They could be trying to create a sort of superhuman in peoples consciences and using simple triggers to activate them. Then when the job is done turn them back to a regular human being again. When Caroline was talking to Paul in the alley this could have been what she wanted him to find.
In the final scene when the head of Dollhouse sits with Echo on the couch while she paints and asks her about the painting. Echo says it's not finished twice. The painting appears to be of the house that Minor had her sent to in order to fulfill his fantasy. Was this a memory that Echo had?
The picture closely resembled the house that she arrived at in the car. It could very well be that the change in the program that the rogue agent in Dollhouse made in order you warn Paul is allowing Echo to keep certain memories. Also, this program could be unlocking her subconscious in a way that she doesn't quite understand. She has these thoughts but doesn't know why.
I was pretty tired when I watched this episode and I didn't really catch the fact that she was drawing the house Minor sent her to. But thats a good point
