Blog 11: "Epitaph One"
In this episode, a woman decides to let down her guard and take a shower while sending her little girl away on her own to use the bathroom. While showering the woman is killed. How does this effect the little girl?
The girl is very obviously distraught by this event as you can see when she screams when she sees the body laying in the shower. And of course she is saddened because that woman is now dead. Because the girl is only a child it makes sense that she has a very hard time grasping onto an event like this at such a young age and you can see this when she sobs uncontrollably. Not to mention that she probably feels a little guilt due to the fact that it was her who got the woman into that situation by wanting to go to the bathroom to begin with. All in all this event is very hard on the girl and almost forces her to grow up sooner than she should have to after seeing something like that.
In one of the flashbacks the head of security at Dollhouse is talking with the woman who runs it. The head of security says "Thats what this whole operation was about, right? Giving people what they want. No no no no. Giving people what they need." What does he mean by this.
When the man says this he is condescendingly referring to the people at Dollhouse's belief that people "need to get away" to slip out of their lives. He doesn't believe that the technology they are using is right and is sarcastically pointing out the immorality of the idea of it when he says "Giving people what they need." because he doesn't believe that people need to get all of the things they couldn't have with the Dollhouse technology.
