In the opening scene of this episode butchers dressed in suits attack Zoe and the group out in the desert. Seeing that these are clearly not locals, how does this effect the morale of the group?
After escaping the danger of the butchers, Zoe immediately addresses the problem by asking how there could be butchers all the way out there since they're nowhere near a city. This worries he group and they seem desperate to find an explanation because they know that if there are butchers up there then their problems are going to get alot worse. Overall this event seems to be a very depressing realization for the group knowing that they can't escape the butchers. This really hurts their morale.
Towards the end of the episode Tofur finally solves the mystery as to how they can fix the world. Tofur finishes the tech and says he can detonate it from Adelle's old office manually. Why does Tofur volunteer to do this?
Since they had recovered Tofur in this episode he had been schizophrenic and had been talking about finding a solution. When they finally realized that there was hope to save the world they had gone back to LA so Tofur could get what he needed. Tofur then made a device that would send the world back to the most normal state it had been in awhile. This device had to be detonated manually thought, and Tofur volunteered for the job. He did this because he was the one who created the tech in the first place and therefor felt responsibility for what had happened. For that reason, he wanted to sacrifice himself to save the world, almost to redeem himself for what he had caused. That is why Tofur did this.
Your questions are very interesting ones and they made me think.
