Blog 10: "Man on the Street"

Periodically throughout the episode it will cut to scenes of people being interviewed about the Dollhouse with the theme of whether or not they thought it was wrong or not. Where does the public opinion seem to lie in this universe?
The opinions of people in this universe seem to vary similar to how I could see it varying in the real world. The opinions ranged from asking where to sign up to people who thought it was just plain wrong and disgusting. The most real world issue I could think to compare it to would be drugs. This isn’t exactly a drug but it alters your mind to change your identity which some drugs do in a way although not on such an extreme level. Some people think it is the person’s right to alter their minds where other people don’t think that it is their choice. I think they would treat this issue similar to that of drug regulation or voluntary slavery, although some people obviously didn’t volunteer.
In the episode they touch on the subject of people willingly giving up their identity to become one of the dolls. Is it a person’s right to choose if they want to be a doll or not?
I think there is an argument for both sides. To some people being able to completely change their identity is an appealing thing, but companies or people having this type of ability and market are dangerous. Having a market to buy slave like people would encourage the company to start taking people against their will which seemed to happen in the episode.

  1. I don't think it s like drug. First, people who are controlled by drug still have their mind. However dolls don't. Second, dolls are not addicted to wiping their memories.
