In Class Blog: Argument, etc.

Argument 1: The writers of Firefly use the actions of Mal and his crew to argue that it is unfair to assume that a person who commits a crime is necessarily immoral because we are unaware of the situation that may have forced them into committing the crime

Potential scenes: When Mal returns the medicine to Paradiso and when he fights Nikolai's men and tries to give them their money back.

Potential real world connections: Michael Vick before going to jail and the things he is doing now.  ny criminal who is committed to bettering a community or something along those lines.

Argument 2: The writers of Dollhouse use the services that the Dolls are made to provide to argue that the forcing of the Dolls to commit sexual acts for the profit of the Dollhouse is morally wrong because the dolls are no longer able to impose their own will on their actions.

Potential scenes: I don't know yet.

Potential real world connections: Human sex trafficking, obviously.

  1. I prefer the first argument. There are contradicitions between good and bad

    1. I ended up going with the first argument. I see what you mean

  2. I actually wrote about Mal's morals on my PSA. It kind of goes along with yours. My argument was that people shouldn't be misjudged just because they're socially deviant or they follow a different set of rules than us. I said that Mal has morals for returning the medicine.

    1. Ours are quite different. I want to talk about team work. I think yours is more like good people or bad people. Like some people did a lot of crime but they built museums and kept lots of precious things.

    2. Zhiping, yeah mine is kind of more broad which for some reason actually made it a little more difficult to explain if that makes sense

    3. Reiny, did you do your paper on this episode too? Or are you just saying that your episode and paper go in a different direction?

  3. I agree with the second argument because that is what my paper is about and it makes the most sense of the two.
