Throughout the episode, there are multiple flashbacks as the Actuals are imprinting memories into the father that has been tagging along. What do these flashback/memories convey to our class since we have skipped some episodes?
The flashbacks are giving us the details and main points were the chaos begins. It also shows us times when the Dollhouse had to go into lock down and also when the Dollhouse Actives had to leave to take an adventure to a safer place. The flashbacks included the leader of that specific Dollhouse, Adele, as she becomes overthrown by the "upgrade" and has lost much of her control. This new upgrade was the event, in which the destruction of humans and the world begins. The flashbacks also give us details about some of the main characters in the Dollhouse and how they become uncontrolled actives that are trying to find a way to end this chaos.
Throughout the search for a place for the characters to stay, they try to avoid or destroy any technology that can transmit any service or signal. This is because signal through devices have now become the way to become imprinted and turned into a mind controlled army. Are the writers trying to tell that technology is becoming too much of a necessity to humans and will one day be the world's downfall?
I think that the writers are trying to convey in this episode that technology is growing rapidly and allowing us to do a lot of things. Moving the episode into the future is also their view of how technology may be. They show that people can be power hungry as in the episode, whoever is controlling all of the Dollhouses is wanting to do more than just use people as human trafficking. The leader wants to be able to use people's bodies to live forever and the writers are showing they are against any total control and what could possibly happen.
